Muriel Hofmann-Forster

Artistic Director

I am an actor, a mover and voice over artist. I am a Registered Creative Arts Therapist in Australia, New Zealand and Asia (ANZACATA), and a Certified Health and Wellbeing Coach. I am ever drawn to explore the wonder that comes from shifting from one art modality to another, and am fascinated with transformation and self-expression.

With a BFA in Acting from The California Institute of The Arts, I spent over a decade making theatre, acting in film and commercial voice overs, and devising movement based performance art in Hong Kong, China and the US.

My embodied engagement with the creative process allows me to phenomenologically investigate the mind/body connection. I believe the body holds memory and tap into it to venture beyond preconceived definitions mapped by the mind and the collective consciousness. I find this method of art-making to be healing as it has safely helped me make sense of the world around me.

I completed a Masters in Expressive Arts Therapy at The University of Hong Kong and then had the honour of conducting over 1500 hours of expressive arts therapy in both clinical and community settings. I have worked with a variety of population groups and successfully held space for them to find insight, heal and positively transform, by facilitating self-expression through a combination of different art mediums.

I relocated to Bath in 2020, and alongside my husband and co-founder Jay, now focus my energy on developing workshops and experiences that use multi-modal art-making approaches and mindfulness practices to sustain insightful mind/body flow states, fostering wellbeing, self-discovery, and vitality in a community setting.

My current arts practice and personal interests encompass: accessing the flow state through Qigong, Butoh and sensory movement; exploring ceremony and ritual through indigenous Filipino psychology and practices; tapping into the wisdoms of cyclical living and the menstrual cycle, dabbling in intuitive herbalism, and enjoying the fascinating field of culinary nutrition.

Expressive Arts Therapy Experience

I am honoured to have worked with: our elders with major neurocognitive disorder (MND), adults with generalised learning disabilities, refugee and asylum-seeking children, mother-child ethnic minority dyads, children with neurodiversity, stroke survivors; students navigating academic stress, and with millennials to strengthen personal identity in adulthood.

Acting Experience

My theatre credits include: Portia from Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar at the Lambs Inc, New York, directed by Nathan Darrow and Kevin Spacey in 2008; Honey Suckle in the World premiere of Peach Blossom Fan at REDCAT Los Angeles, directed by Chen Shi-Zheng. Film credits include: Shu, from the latest Chris Nahon film Lady Bloodfight produced by Voltage Pictures where I trained in martial arts with renowned fight choreographer: Hung Yan Yan (Xing Xin Xin); Voice credits include: Zoe from Dream Defenders, released on HULU (full acting resume upon request). Corporate training experience includes working with prominent clients such as HSBC, Morgan Stanley, and Royal College of Psychiatry through the company DRAMATIC DIFFERENCE. My expertise covers topics such as Diversity and Inclusion, Executive Communications, Hard Conversations, and 'Career and Feedback’ Conversations. I am familiars with a range of techniques including forum theatre, realplay, roleplay, process and playback theatre, and improvisation to achieve effective outcomes.
